Towns & Villages

East Devon is well known for its beautiful coast and countryside.  It is a place which is home to a strong agricultural community and many rural businesses.  It has retained its unspoilt charm and remains a quiet retreat, sometimes overlooked by many heading for the more familiar and crowded routes to the furthest reaches of the West Country.

Along the coastline is a necklace of small towns and villages such as the fishing village of Beer and Lympstone.  Branscombe, once famous for potatoes grown on its warm, south facing slopes, has much of its heritage maintained by the National Trust who manage the beach, the old mill, granary and village smithy.

There is also the  beautiful regency town of Sidmouth with many local shops and wonderful regency architecture.  And at the victorian sea-side town of Exmouth you’ll find a long sandy beach popular with families and those in search of watersports.

Inland are many lovely and typical Devon villages providing communities with churches, pubs, and local shops all a far cry from today’s globalised world.

You’ll find a gentle pace of life throughout the year.   The local shops, pubs, and visitor attractions are open for business whatever time of year you visit.

East Devon is blessed with beautiful villages scattered throughout the region as well as having some great architecture and culture in our county city of Exeter.
